... no significant deposits form up to 10 °dH
... a water hardness of 12 °dH or higher can ruin a machine in months
... a water hardness of 16° dH or higher will ruin a machine in months
... from 20° dH the machine will be ruined in weeks - guaranteed-
In Luxembourg and the neighboring countries, 18° dH and much higher are not uncommon.
It doesn't just affect coffee machines, but every appliance in the kitchen. They also eat and drink the water.
Many people find that food prepared with a water hardness level of less than 10 (=soft water) tastes better.
Why not just descale it?
Descaling won't solve the problem in the long run. Every descaling process is stressful for the machine, often leads to further malfunctions, and usually, after descaling, you ingest the chemicals with the next 5-10 espressos, as the machines are often not completely free of limescale.
Therefore, we believe it is much better to work on the water BEFORE it enters the machine and is drunk.
